Volunteer Firefighter

To apply for this position applicants have no need for Fire/EMS experience. We believe that everyone should have an opportunity to serve their community and we offer supplemental training to ensure that department standards are met. However, certain expectations are required and will be outlined in more detail during the interview process.

Description

Volunteer Firefighters have several responsibilities ranging from simple tasks such as apparatus maintenance to more complex tasks such as structural firefighting and vehicle extrication. Individuals who apply for this position will get valuable hands-on experience and the opportunity to attend a department-sponsored academy.

Emergency Medical Technician

To apply for this position applicants must have a current and valid EMS certification or license with the state of Alabama. Current students and applicants in reciprocity may apply for the volunteer firefighter position until certifications are obtained.  Additionally, certain expectations may be required and will be outlined in more detail during the interview process.

Description

EMTs are responsible for the medical assessment and treatment of patients on the scene of calls and play a vital support function to EMS agencies, such as HEMSI. EMTs must attend an academy, take a national assessment and gain state certifications prior to approval for medical responses.

Support Team Member

To apply for this position applicants have no need for Fire/EMS experience. However, certain expectations are required and will be outlined in more detail during the interview process.

Description

Support team members are responsible for supporting the department through various functions. This can include station maintenance, fundraising, crisis support, social media, event planning, rehab setup, and much more. This is an excellent position for individuals who want to dedicate their time but are less interested in the FIRE/EMS operations side of the department.

Support members can still participate in most of the regular fire training to learn how the firefighters operate and the needs of firefighters in terms of helping with equipment, traffic, rehab, and general support of the firefighters while on calls.

Junior Firefighter

To apply for this position applicants have no need for Fire/EMS experience. We believe that everyone should have an opportunity to serve their community and we offer supplemental training to ensure that department standards are met. However, certain expectations are required and will be outlined in more detail during the interview process.

Description

Our Junior Firefighter Program is designed to teach students ages 16-17 about fire operations, team building, leadership, and service. junior firefighters get to participate in a number of functions including assisting senior firefighters during live calls and setting up equipment in preparation.
